Stephen Roach will examine how the current U.S. economic slowdown is different from those in the recent past - and what that means for Asia, specifically China and Hong Kong. He will also share his views on the impact of the subprime crisis, the economic implications of the U.S. election for Asia, and the ongoing Sino-U.S. trade policy debate, among other issues.
Stephen S. Roach is Chairman and Acting CEO of Morgan Stanley Asia, serving as the Firm's senior representative to clients, governments and regulators across the region. Prior to his appointment as Asia Chairman in 2007, Mr. Roach was Morgan Stanley's Global Chief Economist for more than a decade. He has been an avid participant in the U.S-China trade policy debate and repeatedly given testimony on this issue in the U.S. Congress. Mr. Roach regularly writes op-ed pieces for publications such as the Financial Times, The New York Times, BusinessWeek and Fortune.
