As a newcomer to the world city stakes, how does Hong Kong measure against mature world cities such as New York and London?
In 2007, Hong Kong attracted $42.9 billion in foreign direct investment placing it seventh in the world. With 28 million visitors, over $37 billion in IPOs in 2007 and a powerful brand, Hong Kong has continued to elevate its status as a major world city.
During this luncheon event, Mr. Michael Elliott, Editor of TIME International will answer those questions and give an updated political and cultural analysis of Hong Kong's status as a world city. Looking ahead, Mr. Elliott will conclude with some first hand insights on what the future may hold for Hong Kong.
Michael Elliott is the editor of TIME International and the Deputy Managing Editor of Time magazine in the U.S.A. He joined TIME as editor-at-large in 2001. Elliott also spent 10 years at The Economist where he was political editor and Washington bureau chief. He then spent seven years at Newsweek, and was editor of Newsweek International. He was educated at Oxford University, after which he taught at Northwestern University, the University of Warwick and the LSE. What differentiates Hong Kong from other major Asia cities such as Shanghai and Singapore?
