James Cunningham has been the U.S. Consul General in Hong Kong since August 4, 2005. After nearly three years of great work for the United States in Hong Kong and Macau, Consul General Cunningham has been nominated to be the next U.S. Ambassador to Israel. Before saying 'farewell' to friends and colleagues in Hong Kong, Consul General Cunningham will sit down with us one last time at this private luncheon to share his memories of his time in Hong Kong and his view of the challenges that await his successor.
Consul General Cunningham was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania and graduated magna cum laude from Syracuse University, with degrees in political science and psychology. He was previously U.S. Ambassador and Deputy U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations. He is married to Leslie Genier of Mineville, New York. They have two children.
