May 25, 2008, Hong Kong – The American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong today announced the merger of its Events Department and Business Development Department for purpose of increasing operational efficiency.

Ms. Carol Wang, formerly AmCham’s Business Development Director, has been appointed as Events & Business Development Director. She will take the expanded role effective immediately.

The synergistic effect of the combined department is a higher level of coordination and better mutual support. “In any chamber, a solid and fine-tuned programmatic calendar is absolutely essential to member retention and recruitment. Therefore, the events and membership staff must work together with a great deal of efficiency and effectiveness, ” said AmCham’s president, Richard Vuylsteke.

All staff under the department will remain with the same titles and responsibilities.

Ms. Carol Wang joined AmCham in 2005. In her former role as Business Development Director, Carol was responsible for the overall branding and marketing of AmCham, including identifying new growth areas and creating new partnerships with local and international groups in benefit to members. She holds a BS in Electrical Engineering and an MA in Business Administration and speaks fluently in Mandarin, Cantonese and English.

April 27, 2008, Hong Kong – Members of The American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong and fellow art enthusiasts enjoyed a vivid evening of delightful art works based upon digital photographic effects by Anat Givon, in the prime office space of the Chamber located on the 19th floor of the Bank of America Tower in Central last Thursday (April 24).

In his opening of the fourth of AmCham's quarterly art exhibitions, members and non-members met the Israeli-born artist, Anat Givon, and were introduced to her photography and photo editing skills, combined with fine wine and snacks.

Anat Givon first came to Hong Kong as a press photographer to cover the 1997 Handover and has since then made it her permanent home. Having worked for years as a photojournalist in the Middle East and throughout South East Asia, she has taken her photography and photo editing skills in a very different direction.

“It is another world of photography,” she said, “one in which journalistic accuracy is not a requirement and a complete artistic freedom combined with delightful digital technology makes it possible to bring the viewer a personal and very subjective point of view, seasoned at times with elements of surrealism and humor.”

AmCham president Richard Vuylsteke said the Chamber delighted to have the art works on its walls.

“We hope to give our members and guests a chance to experience art in a natural business setting. It's the perfect meeting of art and commerce,” he said.

Ms. Givon's works will be displayed in the two conference rooms as well as the corridor of AmCham’s office through the end of July, 2008.

All works are for sale, at prices ranging from HK$600 to $6,000 and no commission is taken by AmCham, which operates its Art Connection program as a public service for Hong Kong-based artists.

2008年4月27日，香港 — 香港美國商會會員及藝術愛好者，於上星期四晚(4月24日)齊集美商會位於中環美國銀行中心十九樓的會址，欣賞攝影大師Anat Givon的數碼效果攝影作品展覽。

是次展覽為美商會第四個季度藝術展覽，商會會員及非會員在享用美酒小食之餘，能一睹以色列藉攝影藝術家Anat Givon的作品及其相片編輯效果。

Anat Givon 一九九七年來港從事新聞攝影工作，報導香港回歸，自此扎根香港，並曾於中東､東南亞等地區任職攝影記者，她的攝影技巧及相片編輯技術已發展至一非凡的境界。

「那是個截然不同的攝影世界，在這個世界裡沒有報導新聞的準確要求，而是藝術的自由徹底釋放，並揉合豐富的數碼技術，帶出觀賞者其個人的主觀點，襯托在超現實及幽默感的元素下。」她說。

美商會會長魏理庭說，商會樂於目睹辦公室的牆上掛有出色的藝術品。

他說：「我們希望會員及來賓有機會在自然的商務環境中，體驗藝術家的創作。這是藝術與商業的完美結合。」

Anat Givon的作品於美商會辦公室的兩個會議室及走廊展出，至本年7月底。

所有展出的作品可供購買，價錢由港幣六百元至六萬元不等，美商會不會從中扣除任何費用，展覽乃商會為本地藝術家提供的非牟利服務。
