Media Release - December 17, 2007 More than 1,000 toys collected by the American Chamber of Commerce were distributed on Saturday (December 15, 2007) to children at the Hong Kong Society for the Protection of Children (HKSPC) as part of its annual Holiday Toy Drive. Children at the HKSPC were particularly thrilled when they welcomed the volunteers carrying boxes of toys for them. 50 boxes of toys were distributed by the help of AmCham volunteers, which comprised of AmCham’s Charitable Foundation Trustee, Jon Zinke, AmCham’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Committee members and AmCham staff members. HKSPC, established in 1926 in Hong Kong, is dedicated to providing and promoting the care, education and social development of children and families in partnership with the community. The Society now operates 26 centres throughout Hong Kong, caring for 2,500 children daily. These centres include a children’s residential home, 5 day crèches, 18 nursery schools, an after-school centre and a Children and Family Services Centre. Most of the toys have been donated by six companies in response to the appeal for donation of unused and safe toys by AmCham’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Committees. They include Hasbro Far East Ltd., Turner Entertainment Networks, Wise Kids Educational Toys, Toys R Us, Warner Brothers, and Fast Pace Toys. AmCham’s Charitable Foundation Trustee, Jon Zinke, who has been participating in the Toy Drive program for the past three years, said “it’s always heartwarming to help bring some Christmas joy to those in need.” Felicia Pullam and Jennifer Ho, Chair and Vice-Chair of AmCham’s CSR Committee respectively, have spearheaded this year’s toy drive.
