The chairman of Crown Worldwide Group, Jim Thompson, will outline the factors and critical decisions underpinning Crown's decades-long success as a local company that has gone 'global', and share anecdotes about the many memorable business issues he has encountered around the world, at a presentation to the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong this Tuesday. Mr. Thompson will explain how he grew a global business from his base in Asia and, specifically, in business-friendly Hong Kong. He will also share his thoughts on how a company, and the person who represents it to the community, should relate, mentor and give something back to the business community and to Hong Kong-at-large, in a conversation with AmCham Chairman, Steve DeKrey. Jim Thompson graduated from San Jose State University, in California, with a B.S. in Aeronautical Engineering and has lived in Japan and then Hong Kong ever since. His many voluntary community service positions include: chairing the Hong Kong Trade Development Council's Logistics Services Advisory Committee; membership of the Investment Promotion Ambassador Scheme; board membership of Ocean Park Corporation; member of the Hong Kong Forum and Vision 2047; and as chairman or board member of many charitable or non-profit organizations, such as the Hong Kong-America Center. He has represented Hong Kong on many of its trade missions around the world and he's also a non-executive director on the Board of Wharf (Holdings) Ltd. Mr. Thompson served two terms, in 2003 and 2004, as chairman of the AmCham Board of Governors. In 2003, he was awarded Hong Kong's Gold Bauhinia Star.
