How Environmental Law Affects the Environment PDF Print E-mail
Attn: News / Business Editors
An environmental law expert and the professor of Notre Dame Law School will look at environmental law and policy in Hong Kong and China as well as legislative and policy models used elsewhere around the world, at a presentation to the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong next Monday.
John Copeland Nagle, the professor of Notre Dame Law School where he teaches legislation, property and a variety of environmental law courses, will also outline the scale and sources of Hong Kong air and water pollution and discuss existing Hong Kong government policy and regulatory frameworks, in a conversation with Christine Loh, founder and CEO of Civic Exchange.
Professor Nagle was a visiting Fulbright scholar with the faculty of law of the University of Hong Kong this spring and has lectured on legislation and environmental issues at numerous forums in the United States and around the world. His articles on statutory interpretation, the legislative process, campaign finance, and environmental law have been published in journals such as the Yale Law Journal, the Columbia Law Review, the Michigan Law Review, the University of Pennsylvania Law Review and the New York University Law Review. His latest book, Law’s Environment: How Environmental Law Actually Affects the Environment, will be published by the Yale University Press in 2009.
Professor Nagle has participated in numerous activities outside of the law school. He has served as a member of the executive committee of the Section on Legislation of the American Association of Law Schools and as a vice chair on the Endangered Species Committee of the American Bar Association's environmental section.
Christine Loh is a lawyer by training and served as a member of the Hong Kong LegCo. In addition to her current work as a policy analyst, Ms. Log is an international adviser to the GLOBE G8+5 Climate Change Dialogue and serves on numerous non-profit bodies nationally and internationally.
