Economists Simon Ogus and Yuwa Hedrick-Wong, who focus on the Asia-Pacific region, will discuss these themes:
- Is Asia now in its own orbit?
- How robust and independent is domestic demand?
- Is demand from China & India an adjunct on global demand?
- Will regional investment ride out global volatility?
- How exposed is Asia to toxic credit markets?
- Will it be Asia buying cheap western assets on the cheap this time, and will this be a predominantly private-or public-sector undertaking?
Dr. Simon Ogus, consistently voted as one of the top macro analysts in the Asia-Pacific region, is recognized as one of the few analysts who accurately predicted the Asian economic and financial crisis. He is the founder and CEO of DSGAsiaLimited, an independent consultancy offering analysis of the economies and politics of Asia for a variety of multinational and regional entities in both the financial and non-financial spheres. Simon sits on a number of company boards and official bodies, including the Hong Kong Monetary Authority's Institute for Monetary Research Council of Advisors. Earlier roles included Managing Director and Chief Economist for Asia at Warburg Dillon Read.
Dr. Yuwa Hedrick-Wong has been called "one of the most insightful economists in the Asia Pacific region" whose "original contributions ...have been at the forefront of thinking about 21st century Asia." A business strategist as well as economist, he has spent the last 20 years in Europe, Sub-Sahara Africa, and Asia - Pacific, advising over 30 leading MNCs. With MasterCard Worldwide in Asia Pacific since 1999, he has been responsible for monitoring and forecasting regional economic growth and emerging business development trends. He is also Group Chief Economist at Southern Capital Group, a Singapore-based group of businesses in private equity, technology, property development, financial services, and interests in Europe, Asia and North America. A published author on consumer markets, economic development, trade and international relations, he is an adjunct professor at Fudan University's School of Management in Shanghai.
