Attn: News / Legal / China Editors
At an AmCham event this Tuesday, January 13, two distinguished guest speakers, Mr. Roy Prosterman, Founder and Chair Emeritus of Rural Development Institute (RDI), and Professor Emeritus at the University of Washington School of Law, and Mr. Li Ping, Attorney and Beijing Office Chief Representative of RDI, will share their insights and research on the land reform policies of rural China.
Over the past decade, the Chinese Central Government has crafted a series of laws and declarations to help address the issues surrounding land rights of the 750-800 million inhabitants in China’s countryside. Our guest speakers will be sharing their views on whether the implementation of these laws in securing land rights for the rural citizens has helped narrow the urban-rural divide and maintaining rural stability in the country.
The Rural Development Institute, an international non-profit organization that has worked in rural China for more than twenty years, is based in Seattle, Washington. At this event, the two RDI attorneys will also present some valuable findings from the Institute’s 2008 survey, which is the fourth in a series of large-scale, independent surveys on this crucial rule of law issue in rural China.
