During this AmCham Leadership Luncheon, He Guangbei, vice chairman and chief executive of Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited, will review the opportunities facing Hong Kong's financial markets, including the relaxation of QDII requirements, offshore RMB business, and the potential development of RMB and commodity futures.
Mr. He also will discuss how to tackle some challenges facing Hong Kong's financial service industry, including relatively weak capacity for financial innovation, the influence of the Chinese stock market on Hong Kong's fundraising capability, changing needs of corporate customers, and a lack of diversification.
Mr. He holds overall responsibility for the business and operations of the Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited and is a member of its Strategy and Budget Committee. He joined Bank of China in 1980 and since then, assumed various positions at BOC, including in New York and Paris. Mr. He was managing director of BOC from 1999 to 2004 and executive vice president from 2000 to 2003. He graduated from the Beijing Second Foreign Languages Institute in 1979 and earned a master's degree in international management studies from the University of Texas in 1985. His civic roles included chairing the Hong Kong Association of Banks in 2005. He is a member of the HKMA Exchange Fund Advisory Committee and Banking Advisory Committee, the Executive Committee of the Hong Kong Government Commission on Strategic Development, the Greater Pearl River Delta Business Council, the Hong Kong Airport Authority board, and the chairman's committee of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce.
