The Future of the Express and Logistics Business

Michael L. Eskew, Chairman & CEO
UPS

Mike Eskew, Chairman and CEO of UPS, will discuss how the express and logistics business will develop in the coming years, the lessons UPS has learned to differentiate itself in a highly competitive industry, and the future of express and logistics in China, the US, and globally. He will show how at its core, synchronized commerce is about getting the right goods, to the right place, at the right time and in the right physical and financial condition. It's not just a process. It's an emerging industry space - a $3 trillion worldwide market.

UPS is the world's largest package delivery company and a global leader in supply chain services. Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, UPS serves more than 200 countries and territories worldwide. Its global network includes more than 400,000 employees, 88,000 delivery vehicles and over 260 heavy jet aircraft, making it the 9th largest airline in the world. Through its business units and a worldwide transportation network UPS offers customers the most comprehensive range of services in the industry from logistics to trade finance. It offers not only ground and air transportation, but ocean, rail and over-the-road freight products, international trade management, customs brokerage, consulting and supply chain design, technology solutions, logistics and distribution capabilities and a variety of financial services related to the supply chain.

A native of Indiana, Eskew graduated from Purdue University with a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering. He also completed an Advanced Management Program at the Wharton School of Business. Eskew began his UPS career in 1972 as an industrial engineering manager in Indiana and worked in Germany and with UPS Airlines. He has served as a member of the UPS board of directors since 1998. Eskew assumed his current role on January 1, 2002. In 2003, he was appointed to the President's Export Council and served as the chairman of the U.S.-China Business Council from 2004 -2005. Eskew chairs the Business Strengthening America's Steering Committee.
