Governments, communities and individuals around the world are concerned about the rise in greenhouse gas emissions and the risk of climate change. Given the link between energy use, living standards and greenhouse gas emissions, it is vital to have open and constructive dialogue.
The desire of people in the developing world for a better quality of life will be the key driver of global energy demand growth over the next few decades. At the same time, the developed world will need increased supplies of energy to maintain and enhance living standards. This growth in demand for energy, including the burning of fossil fuels, will contribute to an increase in global greenhouse gas emissions. Sherri will share ExxonMobil's thoughts and perspectives on these important issues, including:
• ExxonMobil's perspective on the outlook for energy use, • The implications of energy use for greenhouse gas emissions, • The risk of climate change, and • Considerations of policy options to address these risks.
