The global community is waking up to the challenge of addressing climate change: new regulatory regimes are being negotiated and new markets in greenhouse gases are growing. The affects of climate change are with us every day but how does it affect us here and what impact will it have on business?
Christine Loh, OBE, will be presenting an overview of a recently released report by Civic Exchange on the Impact of Climate Change in Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta.
Ms. Loh will provide insight into climate-related changes predicted for Hong Kong, Macau, and the Pearl River Delta (the GPRD), and their likely effects on the infrastructure, built assets, and economy of the Greater PRD. Governments and businesses in Hong Kong and the region must act now to prepare for the impact of climate change, or risk significant losses in the future.
Having recently returned from the G8+5 Climate Change Dialogue legislators' forum in Washington, Ms Loh will also speak about the latest developments in thinking on what the international climate change regime will look like after the expiration of the Kyoto Protocol in 2012.
Our speaker, Christine Loh, OBE, is the CEO of Civic Exchange, an independent non-profit, public policy think tank established in Hong Kong. She has been involved in environmental policy since 1985, including having chaired the Environmental Affairs Panel of the Hong Kong Legislative Council from 1995-1997 and 1998-2000. Ms. Loh is a lawyer by training and has been a physical commodities trader by profession (1980-1991), a business strategist (1992-1994) and a politician prior to taking on her present role. She has a long track record working on air quality issues, both in Hong Kong and China, and is an international advisory member to the G8+ 5 Climate Change Dialogue. Loh is also a non-executive director of the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited and serves on the boards and advisory bodies of numerous organisations. Her rare combination of skills and experience makes her a leading voice in Hong Kong on many aspects of politics and public policy. She is a sought after presenter locally and internationally, and has authored many academic as well as popular publications.
