Dear Committee Members,

We are delighted to have Mr. Nick Robinson, National Leader, Financial Advisory – Forensic & Dispute Services, Deloitte China, as our guest speaker at our Friday, June 11 meeting. He will discuss the Supply Chain Integrity Risk.

DETAILS
All organizations are prone to fraud and corruption in their supply chains. The fallout from these can be disastrous financially and harmful to the reputation. The instances of fraud and corruption in the procurement cycle are increasing dramatically as a growing number of companies are using suppliers that are based in Asia. The global economic downturn is both unveiling more fraud and increasing the pressure on individuals to continue the growth experienced by their companies in the past few years. This pressure, combined with an extended supply chain, provides an ideal environment for fraud and corruption.
How big is the problem?
To give you an idea of the size of the market, between 2002 and 2008, the US imported /procured/sourced goods from China at a double digit growth rate ending with an amount of US $338 billion in 2008. Scholars at Beijing’s Tsinghua University have estimated that the equivalent of 16 percent of China’s GDP is lost to fraud and corruption each year, which is approximately US $71 billion. This is four times the estimated fraud rate in the US.
Nick Robinson heads the Forensic and Dispute practice for Deloitte China has extensive experience in advising companies on strategies to deal with fraud and corruption in the supply chain. He will discuss these issues and outline practical examples of prevention strategies.
