Professor Kaye Chon
Chair Professor and Director, School of Hotel & Tourism Management, Hong Kong Polytechnic University

Hospitality and Tourism Committee

How hospitality and tourism education will propel and shape the future of the industry in Asia.

Asia has been recognized in recent years as the center of excellence in hospitality and tourism businesses. With China rising as the world's number one tourism destination and one of the largest outbound markets, demand for hospitality and tourism education will continue to rise in the years to come. Professor Kaye Chon will highlight some of the recent developments in this field, with a special focus on the teaching and research hotel at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (named “Hotel Icon”). Moreover, he will discuss how hospitality and tourism education will shape the future of the hospitality and tourism sector in Hong Kong and Asia in general.

A Korean-American, Professor Kaye Chon joined Hong Kong PolyU in year 2000 as Chair Professor and Director of the School of Hotel & Tourism Management. According to a 2009 article in Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Research, PolyU's School of Hotel & Tourism Management ranked no. 2 in the world ranking of hospitality and tourism schools based on research activities. Professor Chon is globally recognized for leadership in research and industry support activities. A frequent speaker in international conferences, he is currently serving as Chairman of Pacific Asia Travel Association Education and Training Committee and also in the Steering Committee for United Nations World Tourism Organization Education Council. He is the author or editor of 8 books plus more than 200 published manuscripts in professional and academic journals. One of his books "Welcome to Hospitality" has been adopted as a textbook in more than 100 universities around the world.
