Dear Committee Members,
We are delighted to have Mr. Liu Shi-Wei, Managing Director, Taipei Trade Centre Hong Kong, as our guest speaker at our Friday, September 10 meeting. He will present Taiwan: New Face, New Opportunities.
DETAILS:
After the restoration of three links on 15 December 2008, with the commencement of direct flights, shipping and post, some important policies have been implemented to strengthen the economic relations within the Taiwan Strait. The Taiwanese government has issued two regulatory packages that pave the way for Mainland China’s sourced investment in Taiwan. The regulations were effective June 30, 2009. The financial MOU (memorandum of understanding) has been signed for cooperation in the financial sector and to set up a cross strait financial supervisory mechanism.
The Cross- Strait Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA) was signed in late July, creating many business opportunities in the regions. Furthermore, a high-level “Global Investment- Attracting Service Center” from the Taiwanese government will be officially in operation on August 8, 2010, to provide single- counter services to both foreign and domestic investors. Mr. Liu will discuss Taiwan’s six emerging industries, four “smart” industries and 10 service industries, which are the key areas for inward investment from foreign countries.
