Today's forms of partnership foster innovation in both the markets and philanthropy arenas.
Philanthropy is thought of as operating where markets have failed to support certain populations or institutions. However, philanthropy can also serve as a source of ¡§venture capital¡¨ to test innovations that can then be brought to scale by the public or private sector or a partnership of the public, private and civil society sectors. A clear example is microfinance. Ms. Pam P. Flaherty will discuss the many ways in which markets and philanthropy can work hand-in-hand to work for the greater good in both worlds.
Ms. Pam P. Flaherty is President and CEO of the Citi Foundation. She is also Director of Corporate Citizenship for the company and a member of Citi's Management Committee. Previously, she managed Citibank's New York branch banking business and served as Citicorp's Senior Human Resources Officer. She began her career at the company in Citibank's International Banking Group. She is Chair of the Board of Trustees of Johns Hopkins University and also participates on the Boards of several non-profit organizations, including the Local Initiatives Support Corporation, Kenyon College, Colonial Williamsburg, and The Nature Conservancy Long Island Chapter. Pam is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. She is an honors graduate of Smith College and holds a Masters in International Affairs from Johns Hopkins Nitze School of Advanced International Studies.
