Dear Committee members,

The AmCham IT&T Committee is pleased to welcome Mr. Paul Berriman, Chief Technology Officer, PCCW Limited, who will speak on PCCW's Quadruple Play on October 13.

DETAILS

Hong Kong is one of the most competitive telecom and media markets in the world with four pay-TV service providers, five fixed telecom operators and as many mobile telecom operators. Over the past seven years, PCCW has transformed itself from a pure telco play into an integrated telecom and multimedia company, delivering infotainment and interactive services across television, mobile phones, PCs and other multimedia devices. This is referred to as PCCW’s quadruple-play or quadplay service, which focuses on making the same content available, via multiple access technology, on any screen no matter where you are in Hong Kong. As a result from this initiative, PCCW is now the leading pay-TV operator in Hong Kong within just a few years and has now penetrated more than 40% of households.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Paul Berriman has been the Chief Technology Officer of PCCW Limited since May 2007. Formerly he was Head of Strategic Market Development and prior to that, Senior Vice President of Strategy and Marketing. He has led fixed and wireless business development projects in Hong Kong and overseas including the quadplay, now TV and PCCW’s Next Generation Network (NGN). He has become a recognized pioneer in media convergence and quadplay. At the IPTV World Forum in London in March 2009, he was given a Special Merit Award. In 2008, he was voted one of the top 100 most influential persons in the telecom industry in a poll by the Global Telecoms Business Magazine.

Prior to joining PCCW in July 2002, he was Managing Director of Arthur D Little Management Consulting’s Hong Kong office and earlier with his own consulting business, Contactica, which he sold to Arthur D Little in 1999. He is a Chartered Engineer having earned a BSc in Electroacoustics from the University of Salford in the U.K., and an MBA from the University of Hong Kong in 1985. He is a member of the Board of Advisers of telecom vendor Juniper Networks and sits on Intel’s Communications and Consumer Boards of Advisers.
