What role does or should In-House Counsel play as colleagues go about their day-to-day business? Do in-house counsel add value? If so, how, why and when? Alternatively, are they just a drag on business? Is business better off with no counsel or "ad hoc"/outside counsel? How much law input does business really need to get the most out of the deal and/or stay in compliance (and out of court/jail)?
At this joint AmCham law committee event with the Hong Kong Corporate Counsel Association (HKCCA), you will hear Don Hess of the law firm of Allens Arthur Robinson discuss his role of outside counsel, Stephen Maloy of GE discuss his role of in-house counsel, and Greg Terry discuss the needs of a corporate client for in-house and outside counsel. Greg and Don have served as Senior In-House Counsels before (General Counsel of Morgan Stanley and PCCW respectively), and Stephen has served as Asia General Counsel for GE for 24 years.
You'll learn how outside counsel and in-house counsel play out their differing roles to offer and implement advice, using a company's experience in law, business and sometimes government to manage legal and regulatory risks. You'll also hear views on how companies can best use counsel to safeguard a brand, manage and liaise with local governments, regulators, and JV partners, and help shape and protect market access, maximize licensing deals and integrate acquisitions.
HKCCA members register at AmCham member fee.
