Membership Application/Categories

• How do I apply for membership?

You can complete our membership application online or e-mail us at to request the application be sent to you in PDF format. Our membership team will follow up with any further details required.

•How long does the application process take?

Immediately upon receipt of your application and payment, you are eligible to participate in the chamber’s committees, attend our complimentary events/meetings, and attend our public events at member rates. Following official approval by the AmCham Hong Kong’s Board of Governors, at their next monthly meeting, you will receive your membership card and a copy of the Members Directory.

•How long is my membership term?

All membership terms are a full 12 months of benefits.

• Is there a corporate membership?

We do have corporate-level memberships for individuals who wish to gain the maximum exposure for themselves and for their company. Since all AmCham Hong Kong membership benefits are on an individual basis – employees of a member company can enjoy our discounted corporate membership: Additional Member (AM). Click here to review over the types of memberships we offer.

• Who can join AmCham? Do you have to be American or work for an American company?

Membership is open to all companies and individuals who subscribe to the objectives of AmCham. People of all nationalities, from any sector or organization - corporate executives, entrepreneurs, government representatives, educators, students, and individuals - may join AmCham. American citizenship is not a requirement. Members are not required to reside in Hong Kong.

• I know someone who may be interested in joining. How do I refer them?

Great! Send us an e-mail at with their contact details and we’ll follow up to make sure they receive information and answer any questions they may have. Or invite them to one of our many public events and let one of our staff members know; we would be happy to speak with them afterwards.

• I’m 30 years old; can I apply for the Young Professional Membership?

Sorry, this membership category is only available to those under 30 and can be applied for a maximum of two years – whichever comes first. Please consider our corporate-level membership or our Individual membership.

• I was a member six months ago and now I’d like to become a member again; do I have to pay the joining fee  (associated with certain categories)?

Unfortunately once you’ve let your membership term lapse for more than a month, joining fee will once again apply to cover all administrative costs. You will receive a new membership card and Members Directory as well.

• I often travel to mainland China and/or Taiwan; can I attend their chamber activities?

Yes! By signing up for our Greater China “AmCham Plus” add-on with your core AmCham Hong Kong corporate-level membership. Access our sister Chamber of Commerce in Beijing, Shanghai, South China and Taipei. You will also benefit in receiving publication and notices and Members Directories from the participating chambers so that you can stay informed.

• How do I renew my membership?

You should receive a renewal invoice by post 30-45 days before your membership due date.  Simply inform us of your preferred method of renewal or contact us at: to renew instantly!

• Can my membership be transferred to another colleague?

*Leadership Forum membership includes unlimited membership transfers free of charge

• Can I renew more than one year at a time?

Yes!  Please contact the membership team at: for opportunities to renew several years at once.

• Can I renew automatically?

While membership periods do not renew automatically, you are welcome to setup automatic annual renewal by contacting the Membership department

*Automatic renewal for credit card payments only

• May I request an extension to my membership renewal due date?

If you are unable to renew your membership by the end of month due date, you can request a one month membership due date extension.  Kindly note that all memberships over one month due will be terminated automatically.

• Can anyone join a committee?

Participation in AmCham Hong Kong’s committees and their complimentary events are limited to AmCham Hong Kong members and Greater China “AmCham Plus” members only. Committees serve as the voice of AmCham as they help define the Chamber positions on key issues as well as develop Chamber programs.

• How do I sign up for a committee? Does it cost extra?

Participation in committees and attendance to their free events are benefits of AmCham membership. There is no extra fee or separate application process and members can join any committee regardless of industry or expertise*.

*Does not include special invitation-only committees.

• I’m a member and there’s a committee meeting I’m interested in but I didn’t sign up for their committee. Can I attend the meeting?

Yes! As a member, you are welcome to join in any complimentary committee events* and we encourage you to do so. For example, you don’t have to be under the age of 30 to join our Young Professionals committee or their events!

*Does not include special invitation-only committees.
