With your best interest and security in mind, the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong (AmCham) would like to bring to your attention recent scam attempts targeting companies by e-mails.

A few companies recently received an endorsement letter, ‘sealed’ by AmCham, for business opportunities for an unknown company. We have been informed that targeted companies were asked for corporate documents such as business registration.

It was found that such letter was fraudulently prepared by an unknown individual, whom AmCham has no association with. To our knowledge, a good number of companies were contacted by such individual in the same tactic.

Making false statements by the unscrupulous use of AmCham’s identity to perpetrate fraud are serious acts of business crime. This matter is now under investigation and AmCham may take further actions in this regard.

AmCham takes its members seriously and does not make endorsements or business referrals of its member companies without careful consideration. In the meantime, we are taking measures to ensure AmCham’s cyber-community is safe from attacks and misuses.

If you have any questions, or if you ever receive a suspicious message from/ related to AmCham that you think might be a scam, please contact us immediately.
