On Friday June 8th 2018, AmCham continued its strong tradition of service by hosting an annual awards and coffee event in partnership with the American Women’s Foundation (AWA), granting a diverse range of charities up to HK$294,300 in donations. Representatives from both organizations gave remarks, including Chairman of the AmCham Charitable Foundation Walter Dias, who celebrated our longstanding connection with AWA, a volunteer organization open to women of all nationalities in Hong Kong with a passion for working with disadvantaged groups. Our partnership began in 2006 and has since provided HK$1.4 million in financial assistance to 50 charities that help children, elderly, and underprivileged groups with health and special needs. U.S. Consul-General Kurt Tong also delivered remarks at the event, highlighting an overwhelming love for Hong Kong that brings organizations like AWA together and imparts on many a desire to give back to the community.
From a list of charities identified by the AWA, the AmCham Charitable Foundation Board of Trustees approved donations for the following groups in 2018, their initiatives ranging from legal aid to providing support for children of cancer patients:
- Feeding Hong Kong
- Justice Center Hong Kong
- Little Life Warrior Society
- Love 21 Foundation
- Project Concern
