Hong Kong Chief Executive announces she will formally withdraw extradition bill and strengthen police inquiry, moves described as 'a positive step ahead,' by AmCham Chairman Robert Grieves

Hong Kong (September 4, 2019) – AmCham welcomes the Chief Executive’s announcement to withdraw the extradition bill, and is pleased to see a government response striving to meet public expectations to end the ongoing crisis.

“Withdrawing the bill is an important first step to restore business confidence and the city’s international reputation. We believe an enhanced inquiry via the Independent Police Complaints Council to look into the events since June is a positive step ahead,” said Robert Grieves, AmCham Chairman.
“AmCham remains confident that Hong Kong will remain Asia’s leading business hub if timely and concerted efforts are made to resume normality of life. We look forward to more dialogues and closer collaboration with the government on this,” Grieves added.
