Former Walmart executive with more than two decades of experience in US and China tells AmCham lunch event how Chinese retailers are using technology to transform their businesses

Jordan Berke, founder of Tomorrow Retail Consulting, shared insights garnered from more than two decades as a retail executive -- the past 10 years of which he has been based in China. The country's retailers have entered into a unique set of alliances with tech giants Alibaba Group and Tencent that are helping to drive innovation and fuel growth of bricks and mortar businesses. The willingness of both retailers and consumers to embrace new technologies and shopping habits has made China the leader of what Berke described as a retail renaissance -- one with many valuable lessons for other markets and multinationals. The event attracted a lively audience of more than 40 people.
