Position Overview

The Director of Business Development is a senior leadership role responsible for AmCham Hong Kong’s core commercial engine. This role devises the membership strategy and drives the Chamber’s membership growth, retention, and engagement strategies, leads corporate partnerships, and works with Chamber committees on event programming that delivers value to a 2,000-member community spanning over 500 multinational and Fortune 500 companies. In addition, this person has a role in enhancing all income streams of the Chamber.

This is a highly visible, externally facing position that requires commercial acumen, strategic relationship management, and the ability to lead a small but high-performing team while representing the Chamber with senior business leaders and policymakers.  The successful candidate will have direct oversight of business planning, brand strategy, and membership engagement within a dynamic and fast-paced environment.


Key Responsibilities

Membership Growth & Retention

  • Lead strategy and execution for acquisition, retention, and growth of individual and corporate members
  • Oversee segmentation, outreach, and conversion strategies to grow the Chamber’s membership base
  • Sustain renewal rates through personalized engagement journeys, CRM-driven touchpoints, and high-value programming

Corporate Partnerships & Sponsorships

  • Develop and execute strategic partnerships with leading global brands
  • Identify and close six-figure sponsorship and engagement deals aligned with AmCham’s mission and member needs
  • Oversee B2B member collaboration and sponsorship activations across signature events and custom programs

Revenue & Commercial Strategy

  • Own and deliver annual membership and sponsorship revenue targets
  • Oversee forecasting, pricing models, and renewal strategies for membership, sponsorship, and events
  • Initiate new revenue-generating programs and offerings, working with other Chamber senior staff, and aligned with evolving member needs

Stakeholder Management

  • Serve as strategic partner to over 500 enterprise accounts
  • Oversee the secretarial work of his/her team to the functional committees of the Chamber, including engagement with committee leaders
  • Represent the Chamber externally as a senior spokesperson, building influence with C-suite leaders, NGO partners, and other professional and business organizations.
  • Engage board-level stakeholders, working with the President

CRM & Operational Excellence

  • Spearhead the implementation and adoption of a new CRM and pipeline forecasting platform
  • Drive data integrity, lead funnel management, and reporting practices to inform strategic decision-making
  • Train staff across functions on CRM and consultative sales practices

Team Leadership

  • Lead and coach a cross-functional commercial team across sales, account management, sponsorship, committee-secretary work, and service delivery
  • Foster a high-performance, collaborative culture with a focus on accountability, results, and white-glove client service

Candidate Profile

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in business development, sales and marketing, commercial partnerships, or enterprise business development roles
  • Proven leadership track record in managing multimillion-dollar portfolios and driving double-digit growth
  • Strong relationship management skills with demonstrated success engaging C-level stakeholders and global enterprises
  • CRM implementation and revenue operations experience (Salesforce or similar platforms)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and deliver results in a matrixed environment
  • Embracing of teamwork and collaborative achieving of task goals.

Preferred Attributes

  • Some knowledge of prevailing geopolitical issues which affect businesses in Hong Kong
  • Some event organizing and management experience.
  • Strong public speaking and executive-level communication skills
  • Background in international trade and professional service is a plus
  • Familiarity with community-building, VIP member experiences, or stakeholder advocacy preferred
  • A people-person both inside and outside the Chamber
