AmCham Hong Kong Concluded 2026 Annual Washington Doorknock
HONG KONG – Friday June 26, 2026 – The American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong (AmCham HK) just concluded its 4-day Doorknock in Washington DC. During this time, a ten-person delegation led by chairman David Butts first joined AmCham’s from the Asia Pacific to meet with many administration officials, congressional members, staff, and think tank scholars, then after that had its own Hong Kong-focused meetings.
For the last two days, the AmCham HK Delegation called on Assistant Secretary of State Michael DeSombre, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce Duncan Willson, National Security Council Senior Director Ivan Kanapathy, and officials from the Department of Treasury and U.S. Trade Representative. In addition, Senator Steve Daines hosted the delegation, and the delegation also met with a senior staffer of Senator Andy Kim. The delegation also attended a dinner hosted by Chinese Embassy Chargé d’Affaires ad interim Minister Qiu Wenxing.

AmCham HK President Eden Woon, who was on the Doorknock, commented that “It was an extremely useful trip to meet with these officials, where we tried to explain the situation our members face in Hong Kong and describe Hong Kong as we saw it, and we learned about Washington’s thinking about Hong Kong and US-China relations”.
While in Washington, the delegation also took time to co-organize a seminar with the HK Economic and Trade Office on doing business in Hong Kong.
AmCham HK has maintained this tradition of annual engagement since 1990. The delegation provides a crucial platform to explain our members' business interests, share on-the-ground perspectives, and understand Washington's latest policy priorities for U.S.–China relations and their implications for Hong Kong.
