The American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong Announces the Appointment of Alan Beebe as New President
HONG KONG – October 8, 2026 — The American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong (“AmCham”) is pleased to announce the appointment of Alan Beebe as its new President, effective January 1, 2027.
Beebe most recently served as the CEO of the Urban Land Institute (ULI) Asia Pacific and brings to AmCham members a wealth of experience navigating the opportunities and complexities of conducting businesses globally. In this leadership role, Beebe will direct AmCham’s strategic initiatives, advocate for the business community, and lead efforts to foster robust trade and commercial ties between Hong Kong, the United States, Chinese mainland, and the broader Asia-Pacific region.
"We are delighted to welcome Alan Beebe as the incoming President of AmCham," said David Butts, Chairman of AmCham Hong Kong. "Alan’s extensive leadership experience and deep understanding of international commerce make him uniquely qualified to lead our Chamber into its next chapter. As Hong Kong continues to evolve as a major global business hub, Alan’s decades of experience will be instrumental in advancing our members' interests and strengthening the U.S.-Hong Kong-China trilateral relationship. The Chamber will remain focused on key priorities including business policy advocacy, fostering business innovation, and supporting members through world-class programs, networking, and industry insights.”
Before joining ULI Asia Pacific, Alan served as the President of the American Chamber of Commerce in China (AmCham China) for six years in Beijing, where he oversaw advocacy, programs, strategic partnerships and insights to support the growth of members in China, including most American Fortune 500 companies. He also served as Vice Chair of the AmChams of Asia Pacific (AAP), a regional umbrella organization supporting AmChams and American companies across the Asia Pacific region. Prior to AmCham China, Alan held senior executive positions with global consultancies and technology firms, advising a wide range of companies on investing and operating in China. His clients have included technology companies, energy related companies, global private equity firms, as well as major Chinese enterprises.
“I am thrilled to lead AmCham Hong Kong into its next chapter at this pivotal, dynamic time for our members from across industries. The Chamber’s strength lies in our vibrant member community, exceptional programs, and commitment to constructive dialogue with Hong Kong, U.S. and China mainland governments. My top priority is ensuring AmCham continues to serve as an indispensable voice and champion for American business during these unpredictable yet exciting times. I am grateful for this opportunity to build on the hard work and achievements of AmCham volunteer leaders and staff who have served our members and community over the years,” said Alan Beebe, incoming AmCham President.
Alan Beebe succeeds Eden Woon, who will be retiring after years of distinguished service to AmCham since 2022. During his tenure at AmCham, Woon spearheaded important organizational milestones, including strengthening dialogues with U.S., Hong Kong and Chinese governments amid complex geopolitical and regulatory developments. This was done in a difficult period for Hong Kong and for U.S.-China relations. He also expanded the Chamber’s member advocacy programs, improved member services, and enhanced business resilience in response to evolving macroeconomic conditions.
“On behalf of the Board of Governors and our entire membership, I extend our deepest gratitude to Eden for his exceptional leadership, dedication, and steadfast stewardship over the years,” said David Butts. “Eden leaves behind a strong, vibrant organization positioned for long-term success, and we wish him all the best in a well-deserved retirement.”
